Before I started this amazing book, I read an open letter from the author. Her talent is beyond words. She has captured my heart and stolen my breath. So when I read her letter saying she had to do this on her own, it actually hurt my heart. I was so amazed by her talent I couldn't understand why...But I get it now. I understand why but it doesn't mean I agree.

You see, this book is a student teacher romance. It's about two broken souls finding THE ONE that makes them whole. It's messy, complicated, and complex. It's life- in its horror, it's passion, and it's fragility. 

Some of you will judge both book and author.
Some of you will be uncomfortable.
Some of you will write it off.

But...

Some of you will see the beauty in an unappealing situation. You will see a spark, a hope where there was none. You may not be blind to societal concerns and they may even affect you but you won't be stuck on a number, it will be the unconditional love carrying you through. Unconditional Love.

I spent the better part of my afternoon shoving my reactions in the author's inbox. I had to vent, to cry, and to sob. Yes, I actually started sobbing. It was cathartic in such an odd way. I have never been in the particular situation that David and Cam find themselves. It doesn't take much though to relate...To relate to loss, abandonment, insecurity, and overwhelming grief. 

Cam could be any one person searching for their own David to keep from drowning. If only every one is that lucky...

Now for all the haters that read this and label me...bring it on. I have plenty of fight and I'm not afraid to say my piece. If you want a life lesson, I'm more than happy to share. 

For the rest, I hope you truly enjoy the controversial, but no less valid love in these pages.

I’ve read a lot of student/teacher books but trust me this will be unlike any you’ve read before but then I should have guessed that this author would put her own unique spin on it.

From the moment we meet Cam you can tell she’s an amazing young woman but what she goes through broke my heart I just wanted to hug her. David is the new swim coach/English teacher who has had struggles in his past.

One thing I can always guarantee with this author is that her words can destroy and then heal you in equal measure. I felt Cam’s devastation and pain it literally bled through on every page. David wasn’t just in the right place at the right time he was the only one that saw her pain. 

Devastating and at times heartbreaking but so good I loved it and both main characters.

One Last Time...

So much can be said about this title and it's meaning but that would spoil it. So I won't... but I will say I giggled knowing the main character is named after another author. I loved seeing their authormance in book format.

All my ridiculous joy aside and even my 12 year old glee at the Harry Potter references, I was swept away in the story. If you thought falling for Eli in We Own Tonight was easy, falling for Noah is like slicing butter with a hot knife. We won't fall for him, you will melt for him.

The same group of friends from We Own Tonight are the catalysts for fun in One Last Time. The four warrior women who have each other's backs are back and here to get sh!t done. 

At a time in Kristen's life where everything seems to get worse, her friends are her support and lifeline. Their support and sheer force are almost everything she needs. Almost.

This sweet story is a whirlwind opportunity. It's crazy chance with a wild result. From wet clothes, windows "of opportunity", and people behaving badly, you will be entertained long after you've read the last word.

Loved this Forbidden Romance! 

A yummy, good-spirited cowboy.

A hardened, recovering addict city girl. 

Both saddled with barely bridled attraction to one another (see what I did there?).

The twist? They’re step-siblings! 

Watch the attraction and mayhem unfold as you read about Brandt and Jo! This book is super hot and angsty as Jo and Brandt try to navigate this touchy situation. Jo’s estranged-newly-reacquainted mother is walking on eggshells as she ties to mend her relationship with her daughter. Brandt’s father is old school cowboy. A romantic relationship such as this is sure to bring hellfire to the ranch.

With Shameless being on the shelf of my “Top Reads Ever” I was highly anticipating this book and it definitely met all my expectations. I have come to know that anything Lex publishes will be amongst my favorite reads and top recommendations. 

This story is so full of emotions. Ethan is a single dad, overwhelmed by the demands of his ranch, raising kids, finances, and lack of time to stop and catch his breath. 
Tori is in need of a fresh start, not feeling the love or approval from her parents, and trying to move forward from the horrible end of a relationship. Her very pregnant sister (our heroine from Shameless) has convinced her to take the nanny position at Ethan’s ranch, which is very close to where she lives. 
The story is kind of like a hate-to-friends-to-lovers, as they don’t get off on the right foot when they meet. Tori’s sassy mouth and Ethan’s chip on his shoulder don’t bode well in the beginning. Her hesitancy to take the position as his nanny jeeps her guarded and unsure about staying with the job. She outdoes herself with good, hard work, as she battles her insecurities. When Ethan begins to notice Tori’s work ethic, love and care for his kids, and her initiative to make sure he is taken care of as well, he begins to warm to her, snark and all. His need for companionship wins out and they start a routine of watching baseball and hanging out after the kids are asleep at night. 
But what happens when the vindictive and nasty soon-to-be ex-wife tears her ugly head? What about that awful ex of Tori’s and how badly he humiliated her? See what happens when the past collides with the present!

Something you didn't know about Lex Martin:

- Spiders are not her friends. 
- She will incorporate real life in her books.
- She isn't nearly as violent as I would like her to be. 
- She seems to have the best parenting advice ever. Seriously, take notes.
- She is very conscious of animals and ways to help them. Save a horse...
- She will make sure you never look at tacos the same way again.
- She will make sure you will never think of happy places again with out snorting out loud and crumbling in a fit of giggles.
- She makes "special holiday memories" epic.
- She will remind you of the innocence of children.
- She has a new word you will attempt to use daily with your friends. It's versatile and very effective at getting the point across.
- She will offer up phrases that may or may not be new but will have an entirely different meaning when she's done. (Think trains...)
- She will teach you the definition of a total badass.
- She will show you family.
- She will get you to believe in fairytales.

I would like to take a moment to swing back to the tacos and laugh my ass off. Just give me a few lines here.


I can't actually prove any of that without you reading Reckless. I will guarantee uncomfortable conversations, awkward as Hell, inappropriate fun. I can promise that without a doubt you will highlight at least 2 of the lines I did to toss at your friends when they read it. (If none of your friends are that cool, PM me, Lex Martin, or hit up Leslie McAdam. She is in the acknowledgements twice. She needs to earn that shit. Lol)

Reckless is tied to Shameless. You do not have to read it first but if you read this review and believe any part of it- believe this. You will enjoy it more knowing the family and dynamics. Reckless is everything you need in a romance. a sassy sweet heroine with a past she'd rather avoid and a gorgeous man she can't seem to...

Reckless is how you will feel reading this book. you will find yourself barreling through the book in hopes to get to that next line so darn much.

Needing to know everything, control everything, and be everything, is killing Ethan. 

Life is dragging them both down. Who/what will lift them up?

It's sweet, sexy, and sassy. (There's a steamy scene in a vehicle once or twice that may cause temperatures to rise.) In short, Reckless is everything you need in your life.

I’m a real sucker for single parent books and this one is different in that the father is the primary caregiver so it gives a different perspective on that genre. 

Tori is a young woman who is kind of the black sheep of the family she decides to take a job to live nearer her sister. Ethan is a single dad going through a divorce, he’s trying to juggle work and care for his kids and is failing so he’s coerced into getting help. 

Tori has a quirky personality which just endeared her to me more. She’s funny and outspoken she may not realise it but she’s exactly what the family needs, Tori is a naturally nurturing person. 

I enjoyed the relationship between Tori and the children and Ethan it built slowly and at a natural pace. The banter between them made me smile and the chemistry jumps from the page. There is family drama I know divorce is never easy and this is dealt with sensitively.
