Kayla Sutton has finally submitted. And now that Gage has his wife firmly under his control again, he won’t stop until he’s extracted every last independent drop from her being. As each day passes, she learns new ways to accept his dominion. After all, she has a lot to atone for. Flirting with disaster with her ex-lover turned brother-in-law might be forgivable, but it’s not so easily forgotten. And neither are skeletons. If there’s one thing Kayla has learned it’s that skeletons don’t just come out of the closet; they bust through with the power of a locomotive, mindless of the destruction they cause. For the sake of her sanity, Kayla must make a tough decision, even if it means leaving everything behind.

EXCERPT

“It really boils down to one thing,” Simone said. “Do you trust him?” She made it sound so easy, but as I examined my feelings and tore apart his words, dissected his actions, I realized that I did. Mostly. There were plenty of things not to trust him about—anytime he came near me with his cock at the ready and a belt or whip in his fist, for instance—but on a fundamental level, I did trust him. If I didn’t, why would I keep putting myself through this? Why keep bending and bending and bending? “I do trust him,” I said, swiping my bangs to the side. “I love him. More than I could ever say. More than even makes sense.” “Then I’d put the baby mama out of your head. He married you, and though I won’t begin to understand or approve of your…weird relationship, he has always come across as pretty fucking whipped.” I almost spluttered my tea all over the table at her words. Gage, whipped? But the more I thought about it, the more it clicked, because when you got down to the nitty-gritty, we had each other wrapped. “I guess you’re right. I just wish I could get that woman out of my head. The way she touches him, and the way she glares at me…God, Simone, she makes me see red and green at the same time.” “You need a fucking hobby.” Simone’s mouth twisted into a scowl, but her gaze softened as she said it to take out some of the sting. “A hobby?” I asked, absently picking at my half-eaten quiche. Apparently, the subject of Katherine made me lose my appetite. Or maybe it was the smell of overcooked cheese. I pushed the plate away, scrunching my nose. “Why do you say that?” Simone made a scoffing sound, and I glanced up to find her reclined in her seat, arms crossed. “To hear you talk, it sounds like your whole life revolves around Gage and what he may or may not be doing with Katherine.” A hobby might not be a bad idea. Maybe I could start collecting trinkets, like dolphins or dragons. Or elephants. Definitely elephants. Lord knew I had plenty of those in my life. Gigantic ones that ate up too much space and sucked up all the air. One stood between Gage and me in the form of Katherine. But the biggest one sat smack in the middle of Simone and me. This elephant’s name was Ian, and he’d grown too secure in his comfy spot since that damn note had magically appeared on my door. But it was easier, safer, to focus on my marriage and the interloper named Katherine. The subject of Ian was too dangerous. Too painful. Simone must have agreed because she didn’t bring him up once.

\\ SISTERHOOD REVIEWS //

by Anne Milne

I've never read the previous books in this series and although it's not necessary to read them, I think it would give a more rounded understanding of the other characters.
I have to be careful whilst writing this review because of something huge that is revealed ( it's a shocker ) he-he!

Erin is a runner, she runs from reminders of the past, runs from her family, she runs from love. She's a character that slowly grew on me and by the end, I became her biggest supporter.

I can't tell you anything about her love interest, but I will say he's mine, he never gives up on her, he understands her like none else.

A fantastic story with characters I fell head over heels in love with.

Feeling like a cheater, I grabbed onto this book with both hands. Cheater because I have books one and two of this series but heaven yet to read them. I checked and people said it's a stand alone but not. So I will say yes it's true, you can read this book and fall in love with the Walshes without knowing anything else about them. However, you will wind up buying them all on Amazon to do a bit get read through. I say that and it sounds like it's a bad thing but it isn't. The Walshes are the kind of functional dysfunction family I want to be a part of.

Per the author's request, we aren't supposed to divulge spoilers. Not having read the rest of the series I'm not sure what would be so spoiler, other than saying everyone dies... No, they don't, but I wanted to mess with you.

Erin Walsh was the ever present reminder of bad things. Bad things that happened to her, the family, and things she did that weren't so awesome. Running away was her only way of coping.

But running gets tiring, coping without dealing isn't helpful, and life seems to speed on by. Enter hot Doc. Enough said right there. This man, holy hellfires, he's a keeper. Once I find a way to explain I need a divorce to my hubby to marry a fictional character, Doctor Nick will be mine.

The chemistry.
The relationship.
The emotional connection.
It makes you long for their kind of special...But the cons are big and they are looming like black clouds.

It's a fun, feisty story. With a cast of characters that I'd love to call family friends, I am a newly converted Walsh. Maybe Riley will give me the time of day...

I gave her a little shove, and she fell to the mattress. She aimed a meaningful glance at my jeans, and that was all the encouragement I needed to drop them to the ground. She crawled backward, and I followed, stalking her every movement until we were flat against a bank of pillows.

"Hi," she said, running her hand up my flank and over my shoulder. She hooked her leg around my waist and pulled me flush against her. My cock was acutely aware that only my boxers and her panties separated us, and was alternately thrilled with that situation and impatient as hell. She smiled, a little shy. "I like the way you touch me."

"That's good because I really enjoy touching you," I said, bringing my lips to her neck and trailing them down between her breasts. "I didn't want to let you go when I met you last night. Wanted to keep you all to myself."

"Oh," she said, her eyebrow quirking as if this was an peculiar sentiment. "I don't think anyone's ever wanted to keep me before."

Fuck, she was too much. Just too much. Beautiful and rough around every edge yet vulnerable and sensitive.

"I want to keep you," I said, sliding my fingers behind her back to unclasp her bra. "I'll keep you as long as you let me, lovely." Her arms moved to her chest the minute her bra went flying over my shoulder. That vulnerability? There it was again. "And I want to see you, too."

A groan was rumbling past my lips the second her arms went around my neck and she was bared to me. I thought her tits were a crime in that t-shirt, but I had no idea. They were full and pale, and delicious. I licked and sucked as if I was trying to consume her, and maybe I was.

"Say something," she whispered, her fingers raking through my hair. "I want…I want to know what you're thinking."

I released her nipple with a satisfied groan, and then dropped kisses on each of her breasts before finding her eyes. "I'm thinking get me inside you right now."

Our lips met as my fingers inched her panties over her hips. I could take her just like this, face-to-face while I tasted her hungry hums, and I'd want for nothing.

"You probably thought I'd be crazy in bed," she said, her words muffled as she spoke against my neck. "Like, I don't know, adventurous and kinky. Like, I keep nipple clamps in my back pocket and actually prefer wearing thongs, and I'm always down for anal. And it's my fault, really. This whole night has been pretty wild, and I kissed you like a maniac and then everything on the boat, and it wouldn't be wrong to think that tequila on my tits is an average Saturday morning but—"

"It only matters what you want," I said, tipping up her chin. "Don't worry about what I think, or what you think I'm thinking. Tell me what you want."

Erin's fingers clawed at my boxers, and together we got them over my hips and out of the way. Her panties were long gone and my cock was in love with the wet heat between her legs.

"Please don't make it hurt," she whispered.

I shook my head and dropped a kiss on her forehead. "Never."

\\ Sisterhood Reviews //

Review by Becky Rendon

If you are a feels kind of person, this book will sing to your heart. It's not just feels- you can't help but be swept into the story. The longing, the love, the despair. I have never experienced (outside of books) that kind of despair and honestly I hope that I never do.

My eyes are burning and puffy. My nose is running like a faucet and the author broke my heart. But no that wasn't enough for Len Webster, no, Len had to obliterate, eviscerate, and then patch it together using already been used tape. As if reused tape wasn't insulting enough, you had to go and turn my hearts' pieces into ash. I will say this- you write on Hell of a story.

But rising from the ashes comes something new and against all odds, against all hope, it's something beautiful and new.

This book was...
too intense
too well written
too real

So of course, I loved every heart breaking word. I had never read a book by this author and after reading The First Touch of Sunlight that will change. I may need some recovery time though. Wow!!

Review by Anne Milne

Do you remember your first love that feeling when they smiled at you and when they spoke to you that your heart would bust out your chest, if you do this book will bring all those feelings back.
Meredith is such a beautiful soul inside and out, she has loved and waited for Sam for so long when he finally notices her she grabs the opportunity with both hands. It's a pure and unselfish love you can tell she doesn't want to push him and only wants the best for him.
Sam may have appeared indifferent to Meredith but he's always noticed her, he just never thought he was worthy of her. He knows he should tell her his secrets he knows he should walk away from her but he soaks up every moment with her because he knows it can't last.
My emotions were on overload throughout this book, I wanted to hug Meredith so hard almost as much as I wanted to slap some sense into Sam. This is one of the most beautiful books I've read simply stunning.

CHAPTER ONE

SAM

Seven years ago...

It’s my fault.

It’s always my fault.

Samuel Michaels picked up the bottle of Jack Daniel’s from the passenger seat. It was lighter than before he got in the car. His mother wouldn’t be happy. Disappointed wouldn’t even come close. She couldn’t look him in the eye. Not after what had happened.

Because of Beth.

Because of what they had done.

They destroyed what they knew.

They destroyed how they lived.

Their lives would now change.

He uncapped the bottle of whiskey and brought it to his lips. He paused and stared out at the river. It had started raining almost ten minutes ago, and in those ten minutes, his phone had rung a handful of times. Looking out the windshield, he was thankful the moonlight aided in his view of the river. Sam could just make out the raging waves. A sigh had left his lips before he threw back the alcohol and felt the burning on its way down his throat. Whiskey had never been his drink. The way the liquor scorched waves in his stomach was one he hated, but for Sam, he needed strong. He didn’t want weak beer.

He wanted to be numb.

To forget.

The ringing of his phone had him returning the bottle back to the seat next to him and picking it up. He saw Phillip Hall’s name flash on the screen—no doubt, his mother had called his best friend. Sam declined the call and threw his phone next to the empty bottle. It’d been over an hour since he’d run out of his house to his car. He drove to the bottle shop and then to the riverbank. It was too dark for anyone to notice his car, not unless they came close.

Sam curled his fingers tightly around the leather-wrapped steering wheel and let his forehead rest on it. He wouldn’t cry. He promised himself he wouldn’t. But the flash of Beth’s trembling lip had him sobbing. It had been a mistake. She had said that months ago, and now, that same mistake had caught up to them.

The alcohol had finally kicked in, and he no longer felt. Instead, he relished the numbness consumed by his body. He smiled and then belted out a heavy laugh.

“What the fuck has she done?” He leant back into the driver’s seat, and his hand searched the door for the handle.

The moment he found it, he opened the door and fell out of his Jeep, landing on his hands and knees. Sam ran his palms through the wet grass and rolled onto his back, laughing. Once he was able to get back on his feet, Sam lifted his arms up and down as if he were flying and stomped towards the riverbank. He let his feet sink, even squishing his shoes into the sloshy mud. He laughed like a child, continuing to march in the dark night.

When he had reached the edge of the bank, he watched the water rush past him. With the moonlight beaming from above, he was just able to see the river current drowning a log.

“I want to be that log,” Sam said as he bent down and unfastened his shoes. He removed them and placed them on the wet ground. Moisture seeped through his socks and hit his skin, causing his toes to wiggle.

“Sam?”

“Can’t save me,” he said to the sweet and gentle voice. “I need to be the log… I need to die.” He closed his eyes and leant forward, intending to fall into the cold water and never resurface.

To be free.

The impact of the water had him opening his eyes. The current was strong, trying to force him under. His instincts had him fighting against what he had wished for. Water rushed into his mouth, and he swallowed it for air, choking him. His arms fought against the strength of the river.

“Dutch, stay!” the voice commanded.

Sam turned his head to see her. She was on her stomach, reaching for his hand. His heart had drowned at the sight of her. The look of determination on her face was one he could not miss. Sam paddled—not to reach her but to get away from her.

To die quickly.

“Sam!” she screamed and reached out further, almost falling in.

I can’t let her die.

The sight of her instantly sobered him.

Not her.

Sam pulled his hand up from the water in time for her to take hold of it. He kicked his legs to get closer to the bank and to stop her from falling in. When he was close enough, she had tried to pull him out of the water, but Sam had fought her. He just wanted her to fall back on the ground.

“Stop fighting me!” she demanded loudly, tugging on his hand.

A wave hit him, dragging him under and pulling her entire arm into the water. It was a miracle he hadn’t dragged her with him. He broke through the surface, and his eyes met hers. It was too dark to see the colour, but he already knew they were a bright blue. Not dark enough to resemble the ocean, but not light like crystal clear water. The colour was somewhere between.

Sam coughed, trying to breathe in air. “My life isn’t worth much. Let me go, Meredith.”

Can’t let her die.

Not her.

She gripped his hand tighter, as if she knew he was moments away from letting the current take him.

Meredith blinked once, and the fear in her eyes left her. The determination had returned along with her tears.

Meredith Driessen was crying.

Because of him.

Because she thought he was about to die.

“Your life is important to me, Sam. The moment you give up, I’m following you,” Meredith said.

Don’t save me, Meredith.

His heart squeezed in a way it had never done before. He held Meredith’s hand tighter, his lifeline.

“You’d …”

Don’t let me live a life where I want you.

Meredith nodded. “Yes, Sam, I would. I wouldn’t hesitate.”

Don’t let me love you.

She wrapped her other hand around his arm and gave him a small smile. “Let me save you, Sam.”

Let me drown, Meredith.
