It was supposed to be one wild night in Nashville. Another night flirting with strangers; another night pretending I wasn’t desperately lonely. I met a man with pain in his eyes and lies on his lips. A man even more isolated and damaged than I was. For one passionate night, we held together the broken pieces of each other’s souls.
When he shows up in my life months later, it can’t be coincidence. I don’t even know if he gave me his real name, but I crave to learn more about the enigmatic man who set my body on fire. He told me he does things that haunt him to keep people like me safe. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and terrible secrets in his heart.
Indulging in our intense connection could leave me more broken than ever, but I can’t help hoping we might find a way to heal each other.
I thought I no longer believed in soulmates, but this damaged, scarred man could be my happily-ever-after.

It's hard for me to give this more than three stars, yes it's a steamy read with two characters who have an unexpected connection with explosive chemistry. However, I don't feel like I know them especially Scott it needs more character development for me to feel invested in the story.

Hopefully Mended Hearts will deliver the answers I seek.

* * *

Let's just say Scott isn't going to win any awesome guy of the year awards with the way this ended.

He's gorgeous and attentive but very aloof. He has secrets and isn't able to share them. He is a wall...or he tries to be.

This is not the end;only the beginning. I hope that we get a glimpse of the real Scott.

His keen gaze took in the tears that spilled down my cheeks. “Are you all right?”
“No, I’m not all right.” I couldn’t stop myself from railing at him. He’d stripped me raw. And then, he’d abandoned me. “I haven’t heard from you in weeks, and now, you think you can just show up here?”
His brow furrowed. “I told you I’d come back for you. I came as soon as I could.”
“Right. You couldn’t come sooner because of your job. Because of your secrets.” I ran my fingers through my hair. “I can’t handle this.”
My heart couldn't handle any more. It had been shredded beyond repair long before I’d met Scott. Somehow, he’d worked his way into the tattered gaps and ripped them farther apart.
“You left me.” The accusation hitched in my throat. “You’ll always leave.”
He reached for me, wrapping his arms around me so I was trapped in his embrace.
I shoved at his chest, but I rested my cheek against his shoulder. My mind told me to push him away, but my soul told me to cling to him. The intimacy between us was too sweet to resist.
“Why are you doing this to me?” I asked on a strained whisper.
His hands stroked up and down my back. “Because I’m a selfish bastard. Because I can’t stop thinking about you. The way you taste; the way you fit in my arms; the way you understand me like no one else does.”
His fingers curled beneath my chin, and he tipped my head back so I was caught in his intense aquamarine stare. “I can’t stay away from you, Addison.”
“Then don’t,” I begged.

#NewRelease #Review BUTTERFACE by Avery Flynn @jennw23 @AveryFlynn

“I love the heck out of this book! It’s super fresh and hysterical.” -- Helena Hunting, New York Times bestselling author

Butterface, a hot romantic comedy from USA Today bestselling author Avery Flynn, is LIVE!

2018-0627 Avery Flynn

Looks aren’t everything.
It’s true. I’m not what most people would call “pretty” and, well, high school was rough. Fast forward ten years and life is good…
Until a bunch of jerks think it’s hilarious to put the “butterface” (AKA me) on a wedding Kiss Cam with the hottest guy ever—and that old humiliation hits hard.
I recognize him immediately. The hottest cop in Waterbury and totally out of my league.
But then he kisses me.
And we totally forget the room, the crowd, everything.
Then he tells everyone we’ve been dating for months.
Soon everything starts to feel too real, from adorable fights over “necessary” tools to fix my broken porch to surviving a free-for-all dinner with his six siblings to picking up where our last kiss left off.
But there’s something he’s not telling me about why he’s really hanging around, and I’m pretty sure it has to do with my mob-connected brothers.
Because this is not a makeover story, and Cinderella is only a fairy tale…

I'm a big fan of the "not so beautiful"people getting their HEA. Real people need love too. Butterface is sweet and cute. Filled with self deprecating humor and mean jokes from trolls, Butterface has its ups and downs.

Learning to love ones self is hard and Gina has a long way to go. With a little help from Officer Never Breaks the Rules, or Detective Hartigan, Gina is going to learn a lot about herself.

Personally, I'm not sure romantic comedy is the right way to describe this book. I thought it had amusing points but I wasn't laughing as much as I expected to.

About Avery

USA Today bestselling romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip. She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name. Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

#NewRelease #Reviews UNTIL WE ARE GONE by Gia Riley @jennw23 @AuthorGiaRiley

Until We Are Gone, an all-new Standalone Emotional Romance by Gia Riley is NOW LIVE!!

I wanted a family with Cash.

We had dreams –building a house, kids, a dog, and, yes, even the white picket fence.

Or so I’m told.

I don’t remember anything about my husband. Not the wedding or the vows we shared.

The past ten years were erased and with time, they’re supposed to come back.

But this isn’t your typical case of amnesia

What if I’m not supposed to remember?

What if I was meant to forget?

Maybe I don’t want my old life back.

Because if the accident hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have uncovered the truth.

Losing my memory wasn’t tragic.

Losing my memory was fate.

This book was a total surprise I thought I knew where the story would go but the author totally surprised me.

When Meadow wakes up in hospital she has no memory of her life with Cash her husband. Cash has been at her bedside since the accident waiting for the love of his life to wake up.

From the moment she returns home the story changes because she's not coping. Like her I felt something was wrong I had an idea but could I be on the right track. Meadow turns to alcohol it becomes her best friend her coping mechanism. When things come to ahead she a given the choice of rehab or jail.

This was a twisty book it's part love story part mystery and it had me hooked. I found myself questioning everything and everyone. Is Cash a good guy fighting for his marriage or is he a sinister manipulator. Is Meadow losing her mind or is she right to be suspicious.

I enjoyed the twist and turns the story took it kept me guessing and wanting to know more.

Certain authors keep you on edge, it doesn't matter the genre, the feel of the book, or the blurb. Some authors just make you expect the unpredictable. Gia Riley has created a monster. After the Broken Wings duet, I can't help but be paranoid. Like Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory, I start drafting charts and venting insane theories to everyone within messaging distance. Straight up Cray Cray! It's not my fault.

So Until We Are Gone became a crusade to prove I'm not going crazy...but as the crazy person I am...it was hard to prove. Until We Are Gone is definitely going to drive you a bit batty. Connections are made and a bond you have makes everything difficult.

Choices need to be made. And this journey isn't going to be smooth...
It's cornstalks smacking you in the face and falling out a window kind of crazy, but in the end it's worth every cuticle destroying minute.

Playboy by Katy Evans

Publication Date: July 29, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance

A brand new contemporary romance from New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.

It started as a game.

We flirted. We played. Most importantly—we won.

Then I discovered who he was: Gambler. Famous playboy. Silver-eyed player who never plays to lose...

And my best friend’s soon-to-be brother in law, Cullen Carmichael.

He needed a good luck charm, I needed a distraction.

So we made a gamble and set off for Vegas—but pretty soon—I was in too deep.

My heart, soul, and body weren't supposed to be part of the deal.

But somewhere between big wins and long nights, my house of cards started to tumble.

What was this devil with those piercing eyes doing to me?

I’d given up on love, but the wicked, all-in Cullen Carmichael was upping the ante and wouldn’t stop until he’d won it all.

“So you just kissed me because you wanted to.” I speak on a breath.

“Very good. You’re perceptive. Intuitive.”

I realize he’s teasing me in that low, terribly rumbly voice and I wish he would smile at me.

He takes my hand and fingers my palm with his thumb as he leads me to our suite.

I’m sizzling where he touches me, nervously prying my hand free when he leads me into the biggest, most spectacular two-bedroom penthouse suite I’ve ever seen. Not that I’d seen one before in person, only movies.

There’s a kitchen area, and windows from floor to ceiling. A living room, a pool table, gold brass chandeliers, a brown-and-beige-patterned carpet, dark woods, Italian leathers. Gorgeous! I could move in here.

Now I see the appeal but won’t admit as much.

Thinking of our bet, I pay attention to the art on the walls. It’s expensive. I can tell by the numbered print and the signature. Painters with indecipherable and artistic signatures are often the artists to watch. It’s like they know from the moment they paint their first work that they’re on to something big, something that will distinguish their work from all others.

I wish Cullen loved art as much as I do. Maybe I could drag him away from the tables to a local gallery.

“Wow. I could just live he—” I spin around and bump into his big warm body, and he bends his head and kisses my words right out of me.

Kisses me stupid. Kisses my toes curled. Kisses my brain blank. Kisses my heart crazy.

Crimson isn't your typical vampire tale. It's a bit too human for the Moroi in this story. 😉

Being a vampire isn't easy. Life has so many complications. Like dead neighbors and inheritance laws...

Crimson is definitely an entertaining adventure with plenty of ups and downs. I look forward to Scarlett. I think complicated is an understatement to what is about to happen.

I always think it's a leap of faith when you find a new author and I'm glad I took a chance on this book. The author has put a new spin on this genre it feel a more modern and little edgier.

Elizabeth/Emilie is a vampire with a big heart she's sensitive and empathetic not your tyoicsl vampire traits. She takes a job teaching the children of Owen who are quite adorable.

The attraction she feels is not just for his blood which lets be clear she needs to survive. For someone who has resolved to remain free of entanglements her feelings for Owen and his children could be deadly.

I liked both main characters, the author did a good job pulling us into vampire life,. Who knew it was so complicated and with a virus killing off vampires time may be running out for them.

I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next in the series.

Romance Teaser Excerpt:

Biting his lip, Owen's mouth turned up at the corners. "I just… I feel like we understand each other…" he sighed as he shook his head, "do you…are you…"

Cupping my cheek, his thumb skimmed the corner of my mouth.

"I'm attracted to you," his voice came out husky as he leaned closer.

"I know you are," I whispered back before sliding my hands along the sides of his face, feeling the stubble beneath my fingers.

Time seemed to stop as we breathed in each other’s breath. His blood sang to me, and I resisted it’s draw, looking between his eyes and his lips. When he kissed me, he tasted like mint, and his spicy cologne filled my senses, making me want to wrap myself around him.

I've enjoyed the previous books but Rivers is my favourite in the series by a mile.

I just loved Rivers, his story, his personality the relationship with his brothers and his love interest it was all perfect.

So we've got to know Rivers as the quiet more measured guy in the group but now we find out about his past and his biggest regret. I really don't want to say anything about his girl and their story that would be a big spoiler. I loved getting the story in past & present tense i always feel that it gives a fuller story.

The author takes us through all the painful moments, I got angry I was sad and my heart broke for both of them. The writing is superb with the author pitching it perfectly. All the guys are in the story it was great to catch up with them all.

* * *

Rivers is the most mysterious Crow brother. The silent and slightly bloody man isn't as over the top as his younger brother. He isn't as intense as his older brother but there is something, or someone, weighing him down. And now, we finally get to know where and with whom Rivers left his heart!!!

This story isn't rainbows and sunshine. It's dark, stormy clouds with rays of sun trying to push through. Miscommunication, terrible decisions, and hopelessness weigh down these two souls. Lost without each other, Rivers decides enough is enough. He is going to get his girl.

She doesn't make it easy. She isn't the same person. She has changed more than anyone knows. The war over their hearts and feelings isn't going to be won in a single battle. So put on your armor and get ready for S.L. Scott to hurt your heart.

I’m a skilled guitarist. I know how to make her come using all I’ve learned and playing her like an instrument. I’m just not sure if I’m ready to let her have a release. I’m thinking of keeping her on the brink so we can come together. Stella grinds against my hand, seeking relief. I pull out and replace my finger with my cock one big inch at a time. A gasp and then a harsh intake of air draws my attention to her pretty face. “How do I feel, baby?” “So good. So much.” Her eyes open lazily as she takes a slow deep breath and looks into my eyes as I hover over her. Her hands drift from my shoulders to my jaw. “I want all of you, Rivers. Your body, your love, this look in your eyes forever. Kiss me.” Fuck. Yes. Forever. I push in a little more, causing her eyes to close with the motion. My lips touch hers, and she whispers, “I was always here waiting for you. I was always yours . . .” I push in farther, her words driving me to take more. “To love.” Further, the feel of her engulfing me begins to cloud my thoughts. “To fuck.” Fuck. I thrust all the way, as deep as I can go. Her head goes back, her words cries of desire. I kiss the underside of her chin and fuck. Fuck. Love. Fuck. Not gentle. Driving home everything I’ve wanted to tell her since the day we broke up. “I love you.” I fuck her selfishly. I fuck her to satisfy my own needs. I fuck her into an apology. “I’m sorry if I hurt you.” “Don’t say sorry,” she manages between panting breaths. “You feel so good.” I rest on my forearms and take her wrists in hand before pulling them above her head. Our palms press together. Our fingers entwine. Her body is stretched beneath me when I kiss her lips, showing her how much I care about her. “I meant I’m sorry for what I’m about to do to you.”

Living in the capital of Texas with her family, Scott loves traveling and avocados, beaches, and cooking with her kids. She's obsessed with epic romances and loves a good plot twist. Her favorite color is blue, but she likens it more toward the sky than the emotion. Her home is filled with the welcoming symbol of the pineapple and finds surfing a challenge though she likes to think she's a pro.
