#NewRelease #Review WHEN ASHES FALL by Marni Mann @jennw23

WAF - RB banner.jpg

“When Ashes Fall is a tautly written, complex, and emotionally-charged love story that takes the reader on an unforgettable, unexpected, and deeply moving journey.” —USA Today

When Ashes Fall, an all-new standalone contemporary romance from best-selling author Marni Mann is live!

When Ashes Fall Cover.png

It’s been said that you can’t love two men at the same time.
You can’t split your heart, soul, and body in half.
But I’m here to tell you, you can.
Dylan Cole is like ice, sharp and unpredictable, the thunder inside a tumultuous storm.
Smith Reid is warmth, soft and gentle, perfect like a sunny day.
Both are mine.
But I can have only one.
There are two sides to this tale.
I'm here to tell you mine.
If you think this story is about a cheater, you couldn’t be more wrong.

10 stars and all the sunny days

You absolutely cannot, I repeat CANNOT, read this book in public. I don't care how badass you think you are. You will not be able to read this with an audience. Thank God my children were at school when it really hit because I am certain at the very least they would have dragged my husband home to hold me. Worst case scenario, I would be explaining to the police and CPS why I can't stop sobbing.

This book makes The Fault in Our Stars look like those Little Golden books we read as kids. I have a mini migraine coming on from the uncontrollable sobbing. I can barely type this through my unending tears.

There's so much love in this book. It radiates from the pages. If only that were all though...

When Ashes Fall starts out small. Your brain starts wondering. Your gut might clench. Then your paranoia, anger, and lashing out my start. I did. I sent plenty of messages demanding rewrites if this was going where I thought. (Those were ignored. FYI) Then came bargaining... I was pleading and begging. I even made ridiculous offers to try and change the outcome. I even contemplated stopping. I thought if I didn't finish it even get half way at that point it wouldn't hurt. I was so f@cking wrong. You see love isn't the only thing this book forces on the reader. You are physically helpless. You will feel lost, disoriented, and aimless. Hopelessness and shame. Fear, longing, and despair. Every single emotion is punched into your chest with each word read. This isn't the kind of writing where the emotions flow. No floating over you like a blanket. No! This is a building falling on you. Your chest is the exact focus of all that crushing weight.

Now I am not saying to avoid this book! No f@cking way. No. I am saying this is a book you need to grieve. You need shelter. You need warmth. You need love. It is going to rip you to shreds and you will need help holding it together afterwards.

I messaged the author in one of my rants and she said she couldn't do angst. Maury Povich and I say that is a big fat, motherf@cking lie! I would apologize for the uncouth cursing and profanity but I'm so out of sorts I can even get the words to emphasize how much I'm feeling.

I'm still sobbing as I type this but I need you to take at least this from all my rambling- This is quite possible the best emotional rollercoaster I have ever been on. Just like with a rollercoaster, I was excited and nervous to start. Jumping up and down and squealing in glee with my friends. Once I clicked on it, I started to tap my foot and say...um, okaaaaaay. And when this book took off I wasn't sure whether I should scream or laugh. When the fear replaced joy, I started sobbing uncontrollably. The ride ended but my body is still fighting the adrenaline, the emotions, and I'm exhausted. My head hurts. My eyes and nose are burning. And on the inside...I am experiencing sunny days.

It may not be my first 10 star read (Its actually my second.) But I can't imagine another novel coming anywhere near close to it.

Thank you Marni for sharing you thoughts and feelings. People won't realize it quite as much while they read but there is no way not to understand once they hit the author's note. I know I said I would never love you again...But Maury called me out and said it was a lie.

Thank you for tearing my heart to shreds and holding the pieces in your hands for safe keeping.

Oh and next time you want to tackle angst...warn me!

The Hell Night Series continues with JW's story!
A sexy sheriff and the gypsy girl that demands his attention.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

As the Sheriff of Malus, Texas, JW takes his oath to protect its citizens very seriously. Born from a ugly past, he swears no child, woman, or man will ever endure what he and his brothers have. As he seeks retribution of the ones who wronged him, his past and his present finally collide. Secrets are laid open. Ones that are so heinous, they’ll rock the very foundation of JW’s life.
When Eden blazes into town, hot with her own threatening troubles baring down on her, JW steps in as her protector. It’s not only his duty, but a need he can’t ignore. The chemistry between the two is instant and all too tempting.
Giving in was easy, but the consequences were high.
Little does JW know, the disturbing destruction that would rain down on Malus and its people by getting involved with the red-headed gypsy.
Danger lurks just around the corner—it’s dark, terrifying, and malicious.
JW is bitter because of his gruesome past. Eden is sweet despite hers. Together, will they create a beautiful future, or will it all end in bitter sweet hell?

Book two In the series and I'm crushing hard on all these characters. It is essential that you read the first book as more background is given to ' Hell Night'.

This time we get JW's story, his past is every bit as dark as you would expect. He's the sheriff of the town and man who keeps the peace in the town. Eden is a woman trying to escape an ex and finds herself stuck in Malus.

There is no denying the book has dark themes and will challenge your morality. At it's heart is a man overcoming his past and falling in love. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot, there are some seriously steamy scenes.

This series just keeps getting better with each book. Now I'm off to stalk the author to get details on book three.

Sweet Haven, or Hell, is not the kind of place you can wash off. It seeps into your skin, leeches calcium from your bones, and creates holes in your heart. It's a poison for the soul and a terminal blight on your psyche.

Bitter Sweet Hell is a journey that both fills those holes and unknowingly creates new ones. You absolutely must read Trouble in Hell before venturing on to this new "chapter." I'm saying that as a selfish, needy bookworm. I need you to fully experience Trouble before you move into JW. You need to understand and feel the terror, pain, and utter despair of the Hell Night to know what motivates these men. You need to know and experience the vile things to fuel you e hatred and disgust. You will be wearing your righteous indignation like an armor before you finish. But don't hang up your armor just yet, we have so much more to go.

JW is considered one of the "softer" brothers. As the sheriff and lawman of the town, he may have been. But as the man drawn to an outsider, we see the alpha male protector in his true beast mode. What a glorious sight to see.

JW is named after a hero of mine. I almost want to get into a debate about his namesake's greatest work. Though if I'm honest, it wouldn't be the first conversation I'd need to have with him. I would ask to be deputized first and foremost.

As I continue to read these characters, it's impossible not to fall harder and harder for each one. Though I find myself continually straying towards thoughts of a different brother, I found I couldn't avoid falling prey to the charms of JW. While falling for the sheriff, it's completely insane to love his other work but I find yet again- it's a bigger draw than the uniform.

So hold onto your cowboy hats and be ready for the bucking of a lifetime because Alex Grayson isn't going to tell you this story without trying (successfully) to knock the wind right out of you.

Waiting may not be a virtue I possess but I will try when it comes to Judge and Emo. I know both are going to be even more heartbreaking and I plan to be right there.

Excerpt:

AFTER LEAVING REMI AND GRACE at their places, which were on our way to Judge’s, we walk up the steps to Judge and Jenny’s house. All of Judge’s women have a place of their own. Most times, he’s with one of them, but every so often, he’ll stay in his renovated childhood home. When my brothers and I came back to town ten years ago, we all had our homes gutted and refurbished, not wanting anything from our pasts to invade our futures.

Eden stops at the screen door and turns to face me.

“Thanks for walking me home.”

Those metal bracelets she’s always wearing clink together as she grabs her braid and twirls the end around her finger.

“It was my pleasure.” I take the end of her braid from her hand and finger the strands myself. “You should go without the scarf more often. Your hair is gorgeous.”

Her eyelids lower and her tongue darts out to swipe her bottom lip, tempting me to run my tongue along the same path and lick away the moisture she left behind.

Her voice drops when she speaks again. “It’s a pain to take care of. I’ve been thinking about cutting it off.”

“No,” I growl before I can stop myself. Her brows shoot up, so I soften my tone. “It’d be a sin to cut off all this stunning hair.”

She smirks. “I highly doubt God would fault me for cutting my hair.”

“You’re probably right. Let me rephrase. It would be an utter shame.”

I step closer to her, my fingers still gripping her braid. I wrap it around my fist. She moves back a step and her ass meets the screen door. I twist the braid a couple more times.

“What are you doing?” she whispers, her eyes darkening to an emerald green.

I close the remaining gap between us. “Showing you the benefits of not cutting your hair.”

Pulling gently on her braid until her head tips back, I dip down until my lips graze hers. They’re soft and sweet. So much fucking better than I imagined.

Her mouth opens when she releases a breathy moan, and I take advantage, sweeping my tongue inside to explore better. My cock swells against the zipper of my jeans, and I want nothing more than to hoist her up and grind myself against her warm center. Preferably with her skirt lifted. Would she be bare beneath her skirt or would she have on a pair of cute little panties? Either would work for me.

Her small hands grip my shirt at my sides, and I wonder if she’s going to push me away or pull me closer. I’d stop if she wanted me to, but I really fucking hope she doesn’t.

When her grip tugs me closer and her tongue shyly meets mine, I groan in relief. I shift closer and encircle my arm around her waist, pressing her flush against me. My dick both weeps and rejoices at the intimate contact. Leaving her delicious lips behind, I trail wet kisses down the side of her neck. The unique flavor of her skin is addicting, like heroine to a druggy.

“Want to know why I don’t want you to cut your hair?” I murmur against her neck.

Her head tips back until it thumps against the door. “Why?” she breathes.

I nip the flesh where her neck meets her shoulder.

“Because I want to feel it trailing over my chest as you ride my cock.”

She shudders out a breath, her nails digging into my sides. I nudge away the thin material of her shirt on her shoulder with my chin and run my tongue and lips over the exposed skin.

“I also want to wrap it around my fist and use it to tug you back as I fuck you from behind. I bet your pussy would strangle my cock when I do that, wouldn’t it?”

Instead of answering verbally, she nods and presses her hips hard against mine. I wedge one of my legs between hers and press my thigh into her core. Surprise and pleasure force a growl from my lips when she wraps her calf around my leg and digs her pussy onto my thigh.

I’m fucking dying. Dying to flip her around, toss up her skirt, and give us the pleasure we both crave. I’m dying to drop to my knees and lick up every drop I know her body has produced. I’m Goddamn dying to have her delectable lips surround my cock and have her suck until she drains me. I’d grip her long hair and help guide her to the finish line.

A throat clearing behind us has Eden stiffening in my arms. I don’t give a fuck who it is, I want to kill them. Eden lifts her head from the door and peers over my shoulder at the unwanted and untimely intruder. My grip on her hair tightens for a fraction of a second before I let her go. Red tints her cheeks, but I’m not sure if it’s from what we were just doing or being caught by Judge and Jenny. Her eyes shoot to me, and she gently presses against my chest. I take a step back, missing her body against mine the second it’s gone.

“Sorry!” Jenny squeaks from behind us.

I shoot Judge a glare over my shoulder. The bastard has the audacity to raise an eyebrow, like he doesn’t care what he just interrupted. He meanders up the fucking stairs, as if cock-blocking me is an everyday occurrence, his hand entwined with Jenny’s, pulling her behind him. At least she has the sense to look embarrassed and regretful for the interruption.

I step back from Eden and pull her to the side, so the two can go inside.

“Payback’s a bitch,” I inform Judge in low tones as he opens the screen door.

“This was payback. For the time you interrupted Layla and me in the back of The Hill.”

“Fucker,” I mutter, because he’s right. That shit was hilarious at the time. It’s not so funny now.

He laughs and lets the screen door slam behind him. “No fucking on my porch,” he calls out.

#NewRelease #Review THE CONSEQUENCE OF FALLING by Claire Contreras @jennw23 @ClariCon

Claire Contreras delivers ALL the feels in this charming, witty and sexy enemies-to-lovers romance, and it will own your heart from cover to cover.” - Mary, Frolic Media

* * *

The Consequence of Falling, a contemporary romance by New York Times Bestselling Author Claire Contreras is Live!

The list of things I hate is short. Not even my soon-to-be ex-husband is on that list. Nope. I save only the worst of the worst, the crème de la crème, the absolute I cannot even for this list . . .

1. Black coffee

2. Rude people

3. Nathaniel Bradley

Which is why when my father informs me that he’s making Nathaniel Bradley his new business partner, and in turn, my boss, I flip out.

1. He’s an annoying know-it-all.

2. He calls me a spoiled princess every chance he gets.

3. He disapproves of everything I do.

I go into this knowing I’ll hate every second in his presence. Except the longer he’s around, the more I find myself staring at his lips and remembering the one time they were on mine. I randomly find myself looking at his hands and wondering how they’d feel on my skin.

I try to snap out of it, but I guess I’m not as smart as I thought I was. No matter how many times I remind myself of the times I’ve practically thrown myself at him and he’s pushed me away, I keep falling little by little.

I’d always heard that it was a bad idea to mix business with pleasure and if that’s the case, this thing with Nathaniel has demise written all over it.

The consequence of procrastination is it takes you years to realize the author you've been one clicking since August 2015 is one you now want to binge read. If it wasn't clear I have been collecting Claire Contreras books but had yet to read one...until now. If you are foolish like me and waited, stop stalling. You need this book. If you are a fan then I guess you already know what's in store for you!

The Consequence of Falling is real. It's stubborn, entitled brattiness. It's aimlessness and lost goals. It's passing through life without living it. Until...It's not any more.

Real characters. Real flaws. Real feels. And yes real tears. Claire Contreras made me a part of the story and I fell. I swear she must have known me in another life because the stubborn pain in the ass (also know as Princess) took her bitchy, stubborn lessons from me. (Though I have never been entitled, clearly Presley took those lessons to the next level. 😆)

The Consequence of Falling is real. It's sexy. It's tension filled angst. It's loneliness in a crowd. It's longing and despair. It's love, regret, and straight up stubbornness but it's also sweet, hot, and every thing you ever wanted.

Fall and fall hard because it's worth the consequences.
