I love friends-to-lovers romances, especially when they are as steamy as this one. We start the story in the head of Lucas hearing his thoughts was funny and illuminating in equal measure. He kind of validated everything I've imagined men thinking about the opposite sex and yeah it made me giggle.
Lucas is a single dad facing the prospect of losing his little girl and so a plan is hatched to make him look more stable. Kate is one of his closest friends who he just happens to have naughty thoughts of, she agrees to become his fiancee to help him out. Now I liked Kate but it's no surprise Lucas was for me the star of the book. Loved the late night texts and the banter between them, it helped show the connection between the two. It's fun and flirty but also sweet and poignant. A well-written fun love story with great characters that I really enjoyed.

Rules of Engagement is a promise of a temporary nature. I promise you will only want to shake them some of the time. They promise nothing will change. I promise you will have fun.
Whether you are a fan of the Platonically Complicated series or a newbie, this fake fiancee with your best friend's little sister will have you entertained. I strongly suggest getting to know the characters through the first two books but it isn't 100% necessary. I'm just needy and had to binge read them for my own piece of mind.
By the way, this isn't the end. No, a temporary engagement isn't going to stop us. Neither will the wedding. Now you're wondering...whose wedding? Guess you need to read it! Fingers crossed Cam's story happens soon, I need answers.

She moves into my space and tilts her head up, her eyes light and mischievous. “Kiss me, Lucas.”
The breath leaves my lungs in one gigantic swoosh. “Are you sure?”
“Let’s give them a show.”
I’m about to kiss Kate.
This time, I’m prepared.
Clasping my hands on either side of her face, I angle my head slightly. There’s a pause. A suspended moment where our eyes meet. The swirl of emotions I see there—apprehension, lust, desire—makes my heart trip.
We exchange breath. And then finally, my mouth dips to hers.
I try to remind myself we’re pretending, to stay calm, and in control.
My mouth is firm against hers. Her lips are sugar plum sweet and silky soft. The kiss remains gentle, slow. We hold it for a few seconds before our lips begin to move in perfect sync, slowly, cautiously.
Curiosity nudges for more. I move my hand from her cheek to the back of her head, my fingers tangling in her hair, holding her lips to mine, silently asking for permission. To my delight, a needy little moan echoes from her mouth to mine. She wraps her arms around my neck and parts her lips in gentle invitation.
And our tongues hungrily say hello.
A stimulating cocktail of endorphins explodes inside me. Sparks fly in every direction, lighting me up like fireworks on the Fourth of July.
Every single nerve explodes with heat.
I’m fired up. Turned on.
From somewhere deep in the recesses of my mind, I know this is a cover, that we aren’t real, but with Kate’s lips on mine, it’s hard to keep that thought. On a groan, I take all she has to give and deepen the kiss, forging ahead with no regrets. No reservations.
