I had her once. Or at least I thought I did. But that was a long time ago. Before prison. Before I became the Butcher. Seeing her now shouldn’t make me feel anything. It’s been too long. She forgot about me as soon as I was sent away. But all those truths can’t break the connection that links me to my Angel. No matter how hard I try, I’m still drawn to her, damned to want her even though she’s promised to another man. Being assigned to serve as her bodyguard is a torture so ingenious that I have to respect it. If I don’t deliver her to the altar, my life is forfeit to the Genoa family. But if I do, losing her again may kill me surer than a hitman's bullet.
Author's Note: This is the third novel in the Dark Protector world, David Raven's story, and a standalone.
I am so upset with myself because as I was reading I realised I missed book 2 stupid me so of course, I'll be reading Nate.
I really enjoyed Angel and David's story and because we get past and present we really get to know them really well. This author always gives us a hero who is both dark and tender David just stole my heart. Young Angel is strong and fearless she's such a great character.
When circumstances bring them back together everything has changed David is now 'The Butcher' and Angel is trapped and Angel is recognisable from the girl he used to know.
I may be strange but I love the way this author writes her men I can't help but fall for them every time. The story follows the couple through years but you don't feel like anything is missed or that the story was rushed in any way.

Freaking fairytales!!!
Celia Aaron writes fairytales for all types. The Butcher is just that a dark Grimm style fairytale. This isn't a Disney movie. This isn't black hats vs. white hats. No good guys vs. The bad guys. The Butcher is honest, violent, and so damn swoony that even the Disney loving, bird whistling, mice helping kind of women would fall for hard for The Butcher.
In a world where bad guys die in the movies or get arrested as a closer, it's perfection to see that even they can get a piece of the HEA pie. It doesn't hurt that Con and Nate are a part of the story either. I love that my favorite troublemakers are on hand and down for some action.
I may seem like a bad ass but Celia brought me to tears again. Whether she planned to or not, she had me losing hope and ready to crumble. (Evil wench!)
One small note was enough to revive my broken, bleeding heart and well Con helped too. So for all those bad guy lovers and dark protector followers and people who put up with Mate, this one, The Butcher, is for you.
