BLURB

As a kid, Logan Preston was a brat.

Through his teens, he became the bad boy.
Now, at nineteen, no one knows what the hell to expect.

High school dropout, Logan Preston is a
good-for-nothing stoner.
A black sheep.
A disappointment.
The worst Preston Punk of the lot.
At least that’s how everyone in his small town
makes him feel.
But Logan Preston has secrets.
Secrets so dark and so deep below the surface that the only way he can fight them is to stay high, high, high.
He wears cockiness as a mask.
Arrogance as his armor.
Until one girl, one night, asks one life-changing question:
What's beneath the bravado, Logan Preston?

ADD to Goodreads

When I knew we were getting Logan’s book I thought I knew what to expect but this raw, powerful emotional story was not it what we get is perfection.
Logan is the unpredictable Preston the one you go to for a laugh and a good time. His family have become immune to his antics, you can imagine the eye rolls when they learn his latest escapades.
Aubrey is the girl he never expected, she’s new in town and a bit of a mystery. Aubrey’s ex is responsible for her move she’s decided to start over but he’s left her wary and her confidence at an all time low.
They have an instant dislike for each other, they trade insults all the time and to be honest the banter between them made me giggle.
The truth in the story is why Logan is the man everyone sees, it shows the pain that can be hidden so easily. We see someone who seems to have it all with a close family that loves him who knew is pain and self loathing is soul deep. Aubrey could just be the one person who finally gets him and will help him face his demons.
For me this is the author’s best book to date because it is a real, raw and truthful portrayal of a young man struggling with his life and the woman who just wants to love him and be loved in return.

Here's what I can in good conscience tell you:
Jay McLean is a mean meanie. She will taunt you with a hint that leads you in the right direction. She will fold you in a warm embrace. She will make you feel like family, love, and fairytales are real.
Then...utter destruction of your soul and all you hold dear. She will rip your heart out. With what I can only assume is a wicked grin, she will display it in her hands while she causes more unspeakable damage to the remains. ( You may think...whoa this lady has issues, but trust me, my issues are with the author.)
It's not often an author can pull you into a book. I'm not talking empathy because I seem to feel a lot of books. I mean that the way the author writes feels like you are a Preston. Or even dumb name. You become a part of the story. It effects you the same way it does the other characters. It's impossible not to feel the hurricane of emotions that is present in this story.
It is impossible not to need to read her entire back library. Ms. McLean is an incredible painter, story teller, and song writer all in one. The emotions, people, and story flow in an all encompassing way.
So a word of advice...tissues. You need tons of tissues. Maybe even some Tylenol to cover the head ache from your crying jags. Yes, plural. You will cry more than once. Yes, it is worth it. Yes I volunteered to read it and once my Tylenol kicks in I would do it again.

Jay McLean is fast becoming my go-to author for those angst-filled and emotionally charged stories that capture, shatter, and mend my battered heart every single time.

I was so excited to dive into this book, knowing how awesome the previous book, Lucas, effected me and stuck with me for so long after I read it. Logan was no exception, and at about 60% progress in the book I was playing sad songs and lamenting the events taking place. Her writing is so amazing that I feel like I know this family, I’ve met them all, and that they are part of my life. I want to be their neighbor, their friend, and plan cook-outs with them. I’m going to miss these people while we wait for the next book!
But enough of my weird blathering....

I highly, highly recommend this read! I know you won’t regret it!
