*Sisterhood Reviews* HER ONLY SALVATION by J.C. Valentine

HER ONLY SALVATION
by J.C. Valentine

Blurb

Sometimes, relationships can be deadly.

Terri thought she was marrying a strong, loving man, only to find that beneath that handsome face lies something cold, brutal, and dangerous. After years of abuse, her husband takes things a little too far, and Terri finally summons the courage to take matters into her own hands and make her escape.

But freedom comes at a price.

Forging a new life, Terri moves to a new town and tries to forget her past, but she can't help looking over her shoulder at every turn. When prison bars can no longer hold her husband, and her past comes knocking, Terri finds that the strength to trust again may be her only salvation. When her attractive new boss steps up to the plate and vows to protect her at all cost, she’s inclined to accept…but can she ever allow herself to trust her instincts again?

Review by Anne Milne

Terri is literally fleeing for her life, her plan at the start gave me chills and showed her strength and determination. Luke is a great character, he's a bit rough around the edges but the way he is with Terri shows a different side to him. The story pulled me in. You want to keep reading to see how Terri copes, and for Luke, because your routing for then to be together as a couple. It was a good, believable story with relatable characters.

Review by Becky Rendon

This book gives a whole new meaning to the phrases Spring Cleaning and taking out the trash. I loved them both too.

Terri lives every day in fear. Fear of the one man who vowed everything to her. Fear for her health, fear for her sanity, and fear ultimately for her life.

Supposedly, the object of her fear was being detained but it seems Terri's demons won't stay put. Looking over her shoulder won't be enough.

I love when battered women make a stand. Even if they aren't successful the first time, the pride I feel is like a winning lottery ticket. It shows hope and renewed spirit.

Read Terri's story to find out how she took her life back! Her Only Salvation is a story that speaks to anyone hoping for a change. It's a story that (though it can be predictable) is still entertaining.

*possible spoilers*

I liked this book, but I did not fall in love with it. It was a short and sweet typical-girl-escapes-abusive-past relationship and finds a new savior only to be revisited by her past. I feel for Terri and am happy she was able to get away from Randy. Why did Terri not have any family or friends to turn to? I wanted more of Terri's background. I want to know more about the woman who risked her life to flee Randy. I really wanted more of a connection between Luke and Terri. They had one decent conversation. It gave me the whole Julia Roberts Sleeping With the Enemy vibe. I give it 3 Stars for good bones, but it needs more depth.
