Synopsis
Belén: I’ve loved Luciano ever since I can remember, desired him before I even knew what it meant. He’s always been the only man in my life—my constant protector, and his rejection only intensifies my need. Luciano: I’ve never known a love more fierce than the one I feel for Belén. But I force myself to deny her no matter how much it hurts. Our love is a sickness and both of us are infected. Because there’s no cure for being from the same family.

I'm writing this review still completely shocked and heartbroken. This book is devastating from the moment it starts until the moment it ends. I was a little unsure about whether I would like this story, when I read the synopsis. I knew it was a taboo story, and I was pretty sure what it was about, but I was not sure if I could get invested in something that far forbidden. I was curious despite all my doubts, and was instantly proven wrong. This story is absolutely amazing! It's angsty, forbidden, and completely devastating. These characters are forced to fight themselves, each other, and everyone else around them because of what their hearts are demanding what they truly want. I was drawn into their world, and I fell in love with these characters. The ending is bittersweet, and will pull the rug out from underneath your feet. You will quite possibly catch yourself screaming at the final page. I want more, and cannot come to terms with the fact that this story has come to an end! I highly recommend this story, and I recommend it to everyone. This story was fantastic unforgivable, and completely unforgettable!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Why does something so wrong hurt so good? I have come to realize that a single person can be just as addictive and can give you the best kind of high just as any drug can. This book deals with incest between cousins. However, in some states it may still be legal. It brings a whole new meaning to kissing cousins. So if that is something you can't get passed, I suggest reading something else. The Maldeamores (Lovesick) by Mara White is more than a taboo love story.
"But this is what we do to one another. We're both each other's poison, but we're also each other's only antidote."
This is what I mean when I said that you can be addicted to someone. So addicted that it makes you lovesick. The Maldeamores is the story of Belen and Lucky. They are Hispanic cousins growing up in an impoverished neighborhood in New York. They also have a bond like no other. This can only end in tragedy or can it? This 5 Star review is for The Sweet Spot Sisterhood.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I will admit that after reading the blurb i really wasn't sure what to expect but I'm a total wreck, emotional overload is an understatement. I know for some the subject matter will put people off but oh my goodness what a love story. Belen and Luciano's story is told from both POV's and we see them growing up together this helps us get a very rounded view of their life together. Forbidden love stories can vary greatly, some go for shock value, some have a surprise reveal but this one is just so beautiful. You can't help who you fall in love with and Lucky and Belen truly are soul mates. It's at times heartbreaking to read I felt hope and devastation in equal measure. Lucky will frustrate you just as much as he will make you sigh with happiness at his love for Belen. I'm so conflicted with the ending I was happy for Belen and then I find out there's another book coming. I'm going to be following / stalking the author to find out more.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mara White is a contemporary romance and erotica writer who laces forbidden love stories with hard issues, such as race, gender and inequality. She holds an Ivy League degree but has also worked in more strip clubs than even she can remember. She is not a former Mexican telenovela star contrary to what the tabloids might say, but she is a former ballerina and will always remain one in her heart. She lives in NYC with her husband and two children and yes, when she’s not writing you can find her on the playground.
