Blurb
When I opened my eyes, I was in a cell, my body covered in bruises.
Not a jail.
I’d been kidnapped and imprisoned.
I wasn’t alone. I shared the cell with Garin Woods, the man I’d loved since I was a kid.
The man I couldn’t be with because of the secret. A man who would kill me if he found out what that secret was.
Someone wanted to torture me.
Torture us.
One of us deserved it.
It wasn’t Garin.

This book BLEW MY MIND! The second I read the last sentence I was seeking out my book besties to exchange out thoughts on how different things may or may not have played out! What a mind-f#@{! I will not soon forget this book and that just makes it all the more alluring and delicious...which means it will become a re-read. Let me tell you, re-reads are rare with my reading schedule!
Three teenage friends Kyle, Garin, and Billy, trying to survive "The Heart," a crime-riddled ghetto, do what they can to survive, with each having a dream of making it out one way or another. They are all very close and watch out for each other. When tragedy strikes, they all deal with it differently and eventually go their separate ways after they graduate high school. They each end up living very different lifestyles.
When a death brings two of the friends together, old feelings spark and they come together... That is, until they are kidnapped. They are imprisoned and forced to face their past as they face the unknown beyond the door. Strong feelings develop as they comfort and care for each other as they endure horrific tortures and situations. But, what information are the kidnappers after? To what lengths will they go to retrieve this information? Are they developing feelings only because of their situation or is it real? How will they ever get out?
You will have to read this book to find out. It is one hell of a ride. You must be okay with reading dark and graphic violence to enjoy this book. That being said, the book made me cringe and "omg" in my mind because it is on the highest level of sick and twisted. I don't cringe easily so that made me happy, lol! I wanted to feel what the character felt, however, dark it may be. If a book can make me feel, even if uncomfortable, then it has done its job! There are all kinds of feels... the horrific, the endearing, the panic and relief, the questioning and calculating. Did I mention how HOT this book is? It's insanely hot! This book will keep you guessing and you just can't even... You can't!
Don't worry, the ending is good! You won't be upset with it, but you will still be spinning in your head thinking what the heck just happened!?? It's a conversation starter in the best of ways! Enjoy!!
Thank you, Marni Mann!!!

Prisoned by Marni Mann is a dark romance. I have read a few dark romances, but this one is a bit different. It's the story of three childhood friends who grew up in The Heart (think low income housing units). They do what they have to do to survive. Garin and Kyle made it out, Billy didn't. Billy's death brings them back.
What Kyle plans to be an overnight trip to Jersey turns into a nightmare for her and Garin. After the funeral, Kyle and Garin meet up at a local bar. After a night of reminiscing they wake up in a dark and dirty cell. They were taken, but why? During this time, Kyle and Garin grow very close while they try to figure out why they are there and how to get out. Kyle has a good idea why they are there though. She has a secret, one that she has kept since right before she left town. Garin and Kyle have no idea if they will make it out alive.
I definitely recommend Prisoned, especially if you like dark romances. Like I mentioned earlier, I have only read a couple dark romances previously and I think this genre has become a new favorite. It has a shared prospective alternating between the two main characters. I really like this because you get insight into both the main characters. It was a fairly quick read which is a plus because I didn't want to put it down. *Reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood Blog*
