[Sisterhood Reviews] BECAUSE I CAN by Elaine Marie @EMarieBooks

Because I Can
by Elaine Marie

Blurb

Jenna is a victim of an attack on her college campus. After barely escaping, she manages to make her way to campus security. With the help of the security guard, the local police are called, but she soon learns no one will help her case, and the police and the college administration dismiss her accusation, leaving her feeling empty.
Tired of the whispers and looks from her classmates and professors, she decides to take charge of the situation. Tired of being a victim, she’s determined to take her life back.
Jenna soon undergoes a dramatic makeover…one that leaves even her best friend unable to recognize her. With her new look and the help of some online self-help videos, she begins her search for her attacker.
In her search, the one thing Jenna didn’t expect to find was the handsome, new student, Nic. As she gets to know him, she learns he isn’t who he claims to be. It’s then Jenna begins to suspect the guy she’s fallen for.
As she closes in on her attacker, she makes a few new discoveries, and she can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. As she races against time, will she be able to uncover the identity of her attacker before he strikes again?

Sometimes when life deals you a shitty deck, you have to push through and take care of yourself. That's what Jenna did after going-it-alone without any parental support. She was dong well for herself in college and keeping good grades, until one night she was viciously attacked and the school did nothing to help her and brushed her off.

Jenna knows that she can't be the only one, so she looks for ways to take matters into her own hands. Even though she still suffers panic attacks she wants to push through and prevent this from happening again. But how will she figure out who it is? Can those around her be trusted?

This story kept my attention from the beginning and served up lots of emotion with a side of hot and steamy! This was a quick read and I really enjoyed it. I would like to hear more about these brothers... starting with James!

Because I Can...what a sinister phrase-well, after reading this it is.

Not every life is a fairytale. Not everyone lives in a world of joy. Jenna learned this lesson the hard way.

She thought her mother dying was bad. When her father abandoned her, it certainly didn't help her view on life. At least she still had Amy and she is strong. Jenna can do this. Until she's attacked, Jenna thought she could do it.

Overcoming her attack will take work. Learning to live with the changes it caused will too. But learning no one cares or believes her, that was crushing. Where does she go from here?

Jenna isn't like most. Her strength and courage is pretty awesome even with her fear still so real. It's nice to see a kick butt heroine who's not afraid to get hers.
